"The Wall" has been a controversial topic amongst the nation as a whole these past few years and a topic that has been talked about even prior to President Trump's election into office in 2016. As of recent on February 15th, 2019 Trump declared a national state of emergency on the border in which many think to be in order for him to receive funding for his infamous wall. The reason why many believe that his call for a national state of emergency is for wall funding is because Trump basically admitted to it during his speech stating, "I could do the wall over a longer period of time. I didn't need to do this, but id rather do it much faster". Trump is able to get away with this because there technically is no legal definition of an emergency.
Prior to the national state of emergency, Donald Trump had suggested that Texas could help in funding for the border wall and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick seemed to entertain the idea. Trump stated that “One of the things that Dan Patrick suggested, which I thought was very interesting, was: Give the state of Texas a relatively small amount of money — they’ll build a wall themselves, cause they wanna build it,” (Emma Platoff, The Texas Tribune). Now I don't know where Mr. Patrick plans to get this money from but I do know that Texas' priority should not be on a preposterous and inhuman wall.
Dan Patrick should be more focused on more relevant issues for Texans such as helping those affected by Hurricane Harvey in establishing their former way of life or putting more funding towards public schools and helping those in need of healthcare. There is no "invasion" on the border as Trump says and there is absolutely no need for a wall. I hope that those in office representing Texas come to their senses and quickly see that money should be spread elsewhere.

I agree with the commentary that you have over the wall Nacho. The wall is just something that Donald Trump wants to have built so that way he goes through with one of his biggest campaign promises. If he doesn't have this wall built his presidency will be a massive failure and he would be remembered as one of the worst presidents in recent history. Donald Trump having to go to the Lt. Governor of Texas, Dan Patrick, to get the wall started is just ridiculous. I honestly have no idea why Trump is going through these hoops like declaring a state of emergency just so he can validate his presidency.
I agree with everything you're saying, and bringing up how Trump has been trying to get Texas to pay for it is great too. The fact that he needs Dan Patrick to support his idea is ridiculous because Texas has bigger things to focus on, and I'm happy you brought that up. Great article!
I agree with you, Texas politicians have too much of an obsession with the border wall even though all it would do is take away money from Texas. Texas politicians need to concentrate on things that would benefit the citizens of Texas. Spending billions on a wall that would do nothing since most illegal immigrants come through legal ports of entry, is a giant waste of money. The false narrative being conveyed of a mass migration evading our borders is creating an unnecessary fear from many Americans. Dan Patrick needs to be working on things that Texans need like better health care, Hurricane Harvey recovery, and better public schools. Stroking fear from a threat that does not exist does not help anyone. The whole border wall being pushed by many Texas republicans and the President just seem like a way to save face in the election. They don’t want to irritate their voting base, so they are trying to keep good on their campaign promises. Also, as a republican in Texas, disagreeing with the Presidents’ policies is like a death wish for their reelection. Therefore, many republicans just blindly follow the president, they don’t want to lose their chance for reelection. Your point of calling the state of emergency political ploy of the administration and Texas officials is a completely accurate description. I agree that Texan officials need to work on things that will actually benefit Texas.
